Learning as I go: Furniture Pieces

Based on a woodsmith plan, this was my first project.  Entry level tools were good enough.  Finished about 2 weeks before my first child was born.

Massive entertainment center of my own design.  Actually built from 4 cabinets.  Pocket doors hid a CRT, and speakers were also contained.  I did all sorts of veneer work to pull this off.

Closeup of one of the doors.  Crotch mahogany veneer panels, ribbon stripe mahogany veneer applied to door rails and stiles.

Side view.  I always thought that upper bookmatched panel was reminiscent of a Gaboon monkey.

The center cabinet

Here's what a door looked like without stain (paint thinner).  Very dramatic.

Hot on the heels of the entertainment center, I made a terrarium cabinet using the same design elements.  My children's bearded dragon lived the life of a king.

This is a huntboard table inspired by plans in a woodworking magazine (I forget which one).  Again, veneer work in the front.

The same table stained.

An oriental bar made from mahogany.  Pore filled finish.

The components of the bar.

A loft bed with built in desk for my son.

A corner china cabinet I made.

A bathroom cabinet for spare toilet paper etc.

A knick knack shelf with coat/key hangers.
